A little while ago I asked five colleagues which one business book they’d recommend. This week, I’ll be publishing the results, starting with Shaa Wasmund.
Shaa is what I would describe as a whirlwind. She’s buzzing with ideas and energy and she just gets things done. For someone who’s so no-nonsense, she’s also supportive and kind, which is pretty rare in my experience. Shaa founded Mykindaplace, after cutting her teeth in the world of PR, working closely with James Dyson. Today she’s a strategic adviser to Bebo in the UK and is cooking up her next big project with the equally dynamic Dan Wagner of Venda success. On top of that, Shaa founded the Start Up Gym and Financial Detox and will soon be seen on our TV screens as the presenter of Channel 4’s ‘The Day I Got The Sack.’ I can’t wait!
Shaa’s book recommendation is The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. Here’s how Amazon describes it;
SET YOUR GOALS HIGH…THEN EXCEED THEM:
Millions of people throughout the world have improved their lives using The Magic of Thinking Big. Dr. David J. Schwartz, long regarded as one of the foremost experts on motivation, will help you sell better, manage better, earn more money, and — most important of all — find greater happiness and peace of mind.
The Magic of Thinking Big gives you useful methods, not empty promises. Dr. Schwartz presents a carefully designed program for getting the most out of your job, your marriage and family life, and your community. He proves that you don’t need to be an intellectual or have innate talent to attain great success and satisfaction — but you do need to learn and understand the habit of thinking and behaving in ways that will get you there. This book gives you those secrets!
Now I know a lot of people here in Britain may read these words and snort “Pah- I don’t need this American nonsense”, and so maybe we should conclude that we’re thinking quite big enough thank you very much indeed my good man. My take would be that if someone as down to earth and successful as Shaa takes the time to recommend that book in particular, it’s going straight on my ’to-buy’ list!
Update: Shaa’s show is on Channel 4 every morning at 11 am this week!
